"The 1960s Pop-Rock Music and TV Shows Net" Roundup
February 2010
As I sit writing the February Net Roundup report, the earliest news concerning the
incredibly powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile is filling the news airwaves. In thinking about a quake of
this magnitude and scope, plus the very real possibility of tsunamis around the Pacific Rim, including our
beautiful state of Hawaii, one really begins to appreciate the blessings of living in Arizona. For most of us, all
we have to think about today is perhaps getting some things done around the house, going shopping, and getting
ready for the upcoming work week. We are truly fortunate!!!
February 2010 will be remembered for the copious amounts of rain we received in the desert while
the high country and ski industry thrilled at the massive snowfalls that provided the local economies of Flagstaff
and the White Mountains with a much needed financial "shot in the arm". As for The '60s Nostalgia
Net, overall participation was down some, but our committed core of stations continued to participate with
their usuual passion for the trvia questions and the interesting and engaging comments and discussion.
I would like to commend AB7IC (Tom in Tucson) for continuing to check in on a regular
basis after a lengthy absence due to a work/time conflict on Wednesday evenings. Tom thoroughly enjoys the
Net that allows him to travel back in time to his growing up years in the 1960s and a flood of
wonderful memories of the music and TV shows from those formative years. Like Tom, I know we all have the same fond
rememberances from that memorable decade. And as we continue to get older, its not the material things in life that
matter or are important, but the memories we have of all the good times we experienced, particularly during our
growing up years.
The Net was conducted each of the four weeks of the month with moderate
participation. A total of 8 stations checked in at least once or more during the month. There was a single station
with Perfect Attendance during February - K7DMF (Dave in Vail). I would like to congratulate
Dave and his wife Patty, who together, participate in the Net each and every week and form a strong
team when it comes to answering trivia questions. "Way to go, Dave and Patty. You guys rock!"
As always, there were a lot of interesting and challenging trivia questions covering both 1960s
pop-rock music and TV shows. The three featured segments of the Net, "This Week In 1960s Rock and Roll History",
"#1 Hits For The Week Of.....", and "This Week In 1960s Television History", continued to be an integral
part of the Net each week.
I would like to encourage all our '60s Net participants to actively recruit some
new members as we begin the new year. As you know, the more check-ins there are, the more interesting and engaging
the Net is on any given week. Having more members participate and use the band also helps sustain our
efforts in retaining 220 for the amateur radio community.
Until next month, I hope to hear you on the Net each week as we relive those
incomparable days of the 1960s. I'll see you on Wednesday, and until then, "keep on rockin'!"
