CQ Hams Still Groovin' In The 60's

"The 1960s Pop-Rock Music and TV Shows Net" Roundup for October 2009

Welcome to "The 1960s Pop-Rock Music and TV Shows Net" Roundup report for the month of October. The weather this month has definitely become more "Fall-like" with pleasant temperatures in the eighties and night time readings in the low sixties and even upper fifties. It certainly appears we have all survived another very hot summer here in the desert Southwest.

The Net was conducted on each of the four Wednesdays of the month with moderate participation. A total of 11 different stations checked in at least once or more during the month. It was great to have K8WQ (Gene) rejoin us after a lengthy hiatus in Michigan and a schedule that was not conducive for checking into the Net. Welcome back Gene! Another Net member and the owner of our outstanding repeater, N7EOJ (Budd), also was heard on the October 28th Net after a long time of not checking in. Budd is incredibly busy teaching his 7th grade students at a Tucson middle school while also being involved in many educational organizations, taking college classes himself, etc. It is always great to hear Budd when his busy schedule permits, even if for only a few moments. This month three Net members made the "PA (Perfect Attendance) LIST". I would like to recognize the following stations for participating in all four Nets in October.

N7PHX (Jim in Tempe)
K7DMF (Dave in Vail)
KE7GRV (Terry in Tempe)

On Saturday, October 24, the 2nd Annual 1960s Nostalgia Net Fall Luncheon was held at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Casa Grande. A total of six Net members and two member spouses enjoyed some very tasty Italian food and discussed a myriad of topics ranging from '60s music classics to amateur radio antennas to a TV trivia question from the Net about a '60s comedy series dog. Later, we all got to drool over KB4VYM's (Clarke) new 2009 Dodge SRT8 Challenger in "Dodge orange" with its 425 horses racing under the hood. This "'70s retro-looking" muscle car brought back a lot of fond memories for the group from a time when muscle cars were really the "in thing", and used to show them off cruisin' down the main drag of many an American city. And yes, they were a big help in attracting girls, too! Ahhhh, those were the days! Net members in attendance at the Luncheon included:

K7DMF (Dave) and wife, "Mustang Pattie"
KC7Y (Bob)
K1ATV (Bil)
KB4VYM (Clarke)
KE7GRV (Terry)
N7LQR (John) and wife, Stephanie

I would like to thank K7DMF (Dave) and wife Pattie for being so thoughtful and kind in presenting me along with the other Net members at the Luncheon with a Certificate Of Appreciation for hosting "The 1960s Pop-Rock Music and TV Shows Net". The presentation and certificate are greatly appreciated - memories I will always cherish. I framed the Certificate which is now hanging next to the radios in my hamshack and serves as a constant reminder of all the members who check into the Net each month making it the ONLY Net on the 222 Mhz. band in Arizona. As I always say, "without YOUR participation, there would be NO Net"! THANK YOU ALL!!!

As always, there were a lot of great trivia questions covering both '60s pop-rock music and TV shows posed during the Nets. The three featured segments of the Net each week, "This Week In 1960s Rock and Roll History", "#1 Hits For The Week Of.....", and "This Week In 1960s Television History", continued to be an integral part of the Net.

Please don't forget that your comments, suggestions and questions for the website, "CQ Hams Still Groovin' In The 60s", are always welcome! And how about inviting a ham friend that has 222 Mhz. equipment to join us on Wednesday evenings for the Net? As the saying goes, "the more, the merrier"!

If you live in southcentral Arizona, are visiting, or just passing through, please join us on Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm for the '60s Nostalgia Net on the 224.500 Repeater (N7EOJ) located at 9,100' above Tucson in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Everyone "into the '60s" is welcome!
